The Daily Directive

Some inspiration for making a Bowl this year...

Cal and Jeff Tedford

-Tedford went 7-5 (4-4 in conf) in his first season, a 6 W increase overall (4 in conf). FYI the 1 W the year before was the last game of the year @RU (of course). In contrast Marrone would only need half that increase to go 6-6 (3-4) this year and be Bowl eligible.

-The year before Cal was outscored 39.18-18.27 (41.625-18.5 in conf) . SU was out scored 32.67-18.08 (31.57-16 in conf).

-The 4 prior seasons Cal was a combined 9-35 (5-6, 0-11, 3-8, 1-10). Similarly SU has gone 10-37 the last 4 years.

-Much like our situation they had crumbling facilities and hired an OC with no HC experience.

-Not only that, Cal only had ONE winning season (1993) from Bruce Snyders last year (1991) until Tedfords first season. So the prior 10 seasons Cal produced one winning season. The prior 10 years (post McNabb), SU has three winning seasons.

-Even worse they only had ONE season at .500, when Mariucci went 6-6 after losing the Aloha Bowl. SU had two seasons at .500.

-Which means they went to only TWO Bowl games in that 10 year span. While SU went to three.

So Cal was in worse shape than SU when Tedford came along and he got them to 7-5 that first year. So if Marrone is the real deal, the is no reason why he cannot do the same.

Cheers
