Baseball

I had mentioned this before... I think MLB should go back to just East/West divisions. I liked some of the old rivalries that were lost by adding the Central. But the main reason is that the 4 best teams should be in the playoffs. So how would this year have looked?

AL East
TB ---
BOS 2
NY 8

AL West
ANA ---
MIN 12
CHI 12.5

AL WC
BOS +6
NY ---
MIN 1
CHI 1.5
TOR 3

AL Playoffs
NY @ ANA
BOS @ TB

NL East
CHI ---
PHI 5.5
NY 8.5

NL West
MIL ---
HOU 3.5
LA 6

NL WC
PHI +3
NY ---
HOU 2.5
STL 3
FLA 4.5
LA 5

NL Playoffs
NY @ CHI
PHI @ MIL

I thought about this too (I am a Mets fan, yes it's sad) but if they did this they'd also have to go to a more balanced schedule. I don't know how they would pull that off. Plus, this would actually decrease the number of teams in playoff contention -- the CWS-MIN battle would have been meaningless, and the whole point of the new setup was to increase the number of teams with "something to play for" in the 2nd half.

It could but wouldnt normally decrease the teams. This year for the AL it would increase the teams. The last week you had one spot up for grabs between CHI and MIN for the Central Crown. If you eliminate the Central and have 2 WCs then the Yanks and TOR would still have had a shot. Thats 2 more teams alive than last week.

Also teams would have 3 shots instead of 2 to make it in. Which means they are less likely to tank it. Just look at TOR. There was no shot of them getting in this year. IMO this setup helps the little markets.
